General
CAA reserves the right to refuse service; if the conditions are unsafe to the service provider or if the CAA employee or contracts is subjected to harassing or destructive behaviour of any kind. If information provided to Roadside Assistance team members is deliberately inaccurate, this could be cause for termination of the membership.
If CAA service is not available; the Member may make alternate arrangements to pay for the services. For consideration of reimbursement: the original invoice must be provided and must show any applicable taxes charged, the business name, logo/mark, and member’s name. This must be submitted to the Member’s CAA Club within 30 days from date-of-service.
To avoid a roadside service call being charged to your Membership file, you may choose to submit towing costs incurred as a result of a motor vehicle accident, including collision, fire or theft, to your insurance company as part of your damage claim. Similarly, you may submit towing costs to the vehicle’s warrantor should they be incurred as a result of failure of warranty repairs.
Towing Benefits
Towing will be provided if attempts to make a vehicle safely operable at the roadside/location have been unsuccessful. Flatbeds or dollies will be used only when required as per the AAA/CAA towing guide. Towing will be provided within allotted Membership kilometres in CAA North & East Ontario territory in any direction from the point of disablement to the repair facility of a Member’s choice. Classic Members receive four tows up to 10 km. Towing beyond this set amount will be at the Member’s expense. A charge per kilometre will be applied by the service facility to any additional mileage that exceeds a Member’s coverage (service coverage varies by territory). For areas outside of CAA North & East Ontario territory, CAA Plus & Premier Memberships may provide a set number of kilometres of towing with the balance being charged to the Member. The Member may in turn request consideration of reimbursement from CAA North & East Ontario for the balance; however, CAA does not guarantee a reimbursement in all cases.
CAA North & East Ontario reserves the right to determine the towing equipment required to provide emergency road service and the towing procedures to be followed.
Battery
Battery replacements are subject to specific location and weather-dependent conditions. Battery Service is suspended if the weather reaches an ambient temperature of -20 degrees Celsius or -23 degrees Celsius with wind chill. In a situation where different weather resources have a difference in temperature, CAANEO with make the final determination. Battery testing and boosting counts as one of the allotted Roadside Assistance calls during a Membership year, with the exception of a battery purchase from CAA at the time of service. Some vehicles cannot be serviced due to the location of the battery in the vehicle. If, after inspection, the service call does not involve a battery service and results in a towing service, the service will count as a second service call. Note that a battery purchase does not count as one of the Member’s calls as per their Membership level allotment. To learn more about at-home battery testing, including available locations, please visit caaneo.ca/battery
Flat Tire
A flat tire will be replaced with the Member’s inflated and mounted spare. If no spare is available, the vehicle will be towed to the nearest repair facility in accordance with the Membership level’s kilometer towing limit. CAA will install the Member's spare if it is in safe and operational condition. Service does not include repairs, additional trips to deliver a repaired tire, installation or removal of tire chains, mounting, dismounting or shifting of tires, seasonal tire change, and a tire change on an oversized tire, or tires on some trucks/vans based on size.
Fuel Delivery
A limited supply of gasoline (up to 10 litres), will be delivered to the Member’s disabled vehicle. CAA Classic Members will be charged the fuel pump price and must pay the tow driver upon delivery. Coverage excludes diesel/propane. Each service counts as one of your allotted Roadside Assistance calls during a Membership year. High octane fuel cannot be guaranteed. Requirements for diesel fuel will necessitate a tow to the nearest station selling that fuel.
Mobile Tire Service
Mobile Tire Service is subject to specific locations and based on seasonal timeframes. It is a fast, convenient and contactless service available exclusively for CAA Members and does not count as an allotted roadside assistance call. Mobile Tire Service is available at an additional cost based on the Membership level. CAA Mobile Tire Service is only available for cars, SUVs, and trucks up to 3/4 ton. We cannot service commercial vehicles, trailers, RVs or campers at this time. This service is only available on residential driveways with adequate space (3 metres or 10 feet) on all sides of the vehicle for the service technician to work safely. This service is not available at apartment buildings, parking garages, or underground garages. To learn more about seasonal tire changes, including available locations, please visit caaneo.ca/mts
Lockout & Key Service
If your keys are locked inside the vehicle, service will be sent to gain entrance. If the keys are lost, broken or the service provider cannot gain entrance to your vehicle, locksmith service, or reimbursement for locksmith service will be reimbursed up to $50.00. In cases where the vehicle cannot be made operable, towing service will also be provided in accordance with CAA North & East Ontario Membership towing provisions.
Extrication Service
The vehicle will be extricated when it can be safely reached from a normally travelled or well-established thoroughfare. If special equipment, additional manpower or vehicles are required, the associated costs may be at your expense.
Towing Service
If your vehicle cannot be driven safely after attempting any of the roadside services we’ve listed, the vehicle will be towed without charge to any one of the following: anywhere within 10 km of where your vehicle became disabled, or to the facility rendering the service or to a repair facility along the return route. Towing beyond this point will be at your expense.
The use of car carriers (flatbeds) or dollies will be at your expense unless specified as required service equipment by the CAA/AAA service and tow manual.
In instances when the vehicle becomes disabled while towing a light duty trailer, roadside service will be provided for the trailer (excluding fifth-wheel trailers). You may be required to pay for the trailer towing.
CAA North & East Ontario reserves the right to determine the towing equipment required to provide roadside service and the towing procedures to be followed.
Emergency Repair Cheque Acceptance
Participating CAA North & East Ontario Approved Auto Repair Service facilities will accept your personal cheque with the use of a valid Membership card and photo identification at time of payment for up to $400.00 for emergency repairs and road service expenses when no other means of payment is available (e.g. cash or credit card). The name on the cheque must match the Member’s name. This service is limited to emergency repairs and services not covered under your CAA Membership which must be carried out in order to render the vehicle operable.
For lockout reimbursement, see information above in the Lockout & Key Service section.
Excessive Use of Roadside Assistance
In fairness to all Members, roadside service is not be used as a substitute for proper vehicle maintenance. CAA North & East Ontario has set reasonable limitations on the number of roadside service calls provided to each Member per Membership year.
Classic Members are allowed four (4) service calls per Membership year. Anytime a driver is dispatched to you for a service call, be it a light service or a tow, the service call is countable towards these four (4) calls even if the problem is resolved upon arrival.
